Ozempic is a treatment that can be used for weight loss and works by reducing your appetite. It comes as pre-filled injection pens that you administer yourself just once a week. It is available for those with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 and over or BMI over 27 with weight-related conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease or sleep apnoea.

Prescribers must independently verify the patient’s BMI and must add the BMI in the directions section of the prescription.

If the BMI is  ≥ 27 kg/m2 to < 30 kg/m2 then the prescriber must also include details of the patient’s weight-related comorbid condition(s) (e.g., hypertension, dyslipidaemia, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes, or type 2 diabetes mellitus).

Ozempic (generic name semaglutide) is a prescription injectable medication used to:

• Reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events (such as heart attack or stroke) in adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease

It belongs to a class of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists, which work by helping your body release insulin when needed, slowing down digestion, and lowering appetite.

💉 How to Use Ozempic 1 mg

1. Once weekly injection — same day each week (any time of day, with or without meals).
2. Inject into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm — rotate injection sites each time.
3. Use a new needle for every injection.
4. Do not share your pen with others (infection risk).
5. If you miss a dose and it’s within 5 days, take it as soon as possible; otherwise, skip it and continue your regular schedule.
